SounDoctrine rewraps the popular Bobby Womack classic “Stop On By” and throws Smooth Jazz Guitarist Eric Tyus into the Fire on this Sizzling, Jazzy Funk Mix.

The Originalternativefunkjazzfusion Ensemble’s version also features the soulful saxophone of Mitch Lawrence, Trumpet & Synths brilliantly blown away by Frank Walton with the bottom held down by monster bassist Dylan Waters. Producer Jere B keeps the funk humping with his pulsating rhythms and beats.

Guest Guitarist Eric Tyus takes center stage on this popular tune covered by Rufus & Chaka Khan on their blistering “Stomping at the Savoy - Live” (released in 1983). Eric adds silky scat vocals to his searing guitar work, reminiscent of Norman Brown & George Benson.

Eric Tyus is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He has been performing on guitar, and flute professionally for 20 years. He is heavily rooted in smooth jazz, but is equally equipped to tackle any genre of music. Eric has a B.S. Degree in Music, and an M. Ed. Degree in Guidance Counseling both from South Carolina State University.

Eric has opened for R&B Groups SOS Band, Starpoint, Atlantic Star, Regina Bell, Midnight Star, Ohio Players, Tony, Toni, Tone, and Ginuwine. He has performed with noteworthy Jazz Artists such as The Late Great Mr. Dizzy Gillespie, Nat Adderly, Clark Terry, Fred Wesley, and Frank Foster. He’s played with Gospel Artists Dwayne Woods, Vickie Winans, Jonathan Nelson, and CoCo McMillan. His southern roots keep him performing regularly in club venues with the smooth Jazz bands E,T,&D, and PRIDE.

“Stop on By” is SounDoctrine’s third pre-release for their upcoming “Source” project which hits the street this summer on their Niayana label. Added to selections “After All” & the most recent “Selah,” this hot cover tune continues to reveal the powerful dexterity of these Ohio natives.

“Selah” is another of SounDoctrine’s Soulful Contemplation of Rhythmic ‘Jazz meets World’ featuring Vocals by Sheldon Grayson and sensational flutist, Jeremy DeJesus. With Jerry Thompson’s thought provoking lyrics juxtaposed against SounDoctrine’s smoldering undercurrent, “Selah” easily flows right into your ‘repeat’ file.

Produced by Jere B and longtime engineer, Jerry Thompson, SounDoctrine continues their exploration into experimentalmusic that engages their listeners without locking them into one genre of music. Masters of “Originalternativefunkjazzfusion!” the ensemble displays the dexterity that has kept them an indie favorite since 2002.

Reminiscent of Earth, Wind & Fire’s Phillip Bailey, newcomer Sheldon Grayson steps into his debut with energy and grace. Berklee School of Music grad Jeremy DeJesus positions his elegant flute right across the ‘stop&start’ backbeat while Hubert Clardy gently slides his piano underneath. “Selah” is quite the excursion.

“Selah” is the second single release from SounDoctrine’s forthcoming fourth album, “Source.”
